Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 New Map Guide (2024)

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 New Map Guide (1)

Epic Games released Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 this week, effectively restarting the game fresh and new (for the most part) instead of doing a season 11 as we expected. This latest season is the biggest one ever, making the game feel entirely new again for the first time since it started over two years ago.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 Introduces New Map

The release of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 comes with a lot of things that you would expect like the new battle pass for players to progress in, new skins to unlock, and new gameplay features to utilize in battle. Of course, this also includes the new map that is featured in battle royale.

The new Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 map is an extraordinary accomplishment for the game since it really does replace the one from the past 10 seasons. For those who don’t know, season X ended with the old map as well as all players being sucked into a black hole.

This effectively killed off the entire previous map and made the way for a brand new one. Gone are the days of Epic just releasing new locations and changing some of the existing. Instead, we have a brand new island, which is something fans have been wanting for a very long time.

The new Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 map is mostly amazing, even if it does still hold on a little bit to the past. There are a total of 13 named locations on the new battle royale map, some of which are from the past while most of them are brand new.

The island as a whole is mostly green, looking a lot like the first island did way back in the first season of the game. There is no desert and the snow that does exist on the island is minimal at best. The only real terrain that isn’t hilly and green is the yellow farmland that is in the northeastern sector.

How to Fill in the Entire Map

However, when you first pull into your first match of battle royale in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1, you will find that you can’t see any of the new map’s features really. The map is available for you to look at but it is totally gray and all of the named locations have question marks next to them.

In order to see the whole map, you actually have to physically unlock it as you are playing the game. This makes it more akin to other games like the Assassin’s Creed series, Breath of the Wild, and other open world titles. It is a nice meta feature that shakes things up considerably.

It will take quite a bit to unlock the whole map, too, since just going to the 13 named locations won’t actually fill out the whole map. There are still unnamed areas that will be grayed out if you haven’t visited them before.

From a general perspective, the island looks larger than the previous one and it is broken up into several smaller islands. There are several rivers, lakes, and the ocean that surrounds the map, too. The various waterways break up the map into several different sections.

If you’re wanting to know what the whole map is like without having to spend all that time going to each area, we are going to give you our detailed description of what all of the named locations are like.

Steamy Stacks

Beginning in the northeastern corner of the island, we have the named location of Steamy Stacks. Steamy Stacks is a brand new area that has never been seen before in a previous season. It is found in a corner of the island, overlooking the water below from a cliff of sorts.

Steamy Stacks is a lot like a nuclear power plant of sorts. When you arrive there or are even from far away, the most immediately noticeable thing are the two reactor-looking features that are staggeringly high. Those are the two most prominent features of this area.

The rest of the area is mainly like the rest of a power plant with office buildings, other warehouses, and the like. What makes the area so interesting are the reactors themselves because they glow purple inside and act a lot like the volcano vents from before.

Going in there will allow the player to soar up high on the wind and be able to glide to other areas around the map.

Craggy Cliffs

Just a little bit northwest of Steamy Stacks is Craggy Cliffs. Also overlooking the ocean from some cliffs of sorts, Craggy Cliffs is the northernmost area on the island. It is a bit of a small coastal town that has a bit of everything from the other named locations.

There is a dock that you can visit on one side, a clocktower that looks a lot like the one that was originally in Tilted Towers before moving to Junk Junction, and some houses here and there. The main start of the area, though, is the fast food restaurant in the northernmost section of town.

There, you will find the fish sticks restaurant that features the fish sticks skin himself on the front of the restaurant. It is surprisingly large given the size of the town and relative to similar fast food places. Inside, you can find a couple of floors, complete with a detailed menu and sitting areas.

Pleasant Park

If you go southwest of Craggy Cliffs, you will find Pleasant Park, one of the only returning named locations from the previous island. Pleasant Park is sort of in the same area as it was before but slightly moved to fit better on the new, split up island.

Pleasant Park is, without a doubt, one of the most unchanged islands in general on the map. It is still the same exact shape that it was for the previous 10 seasons of the game and the houses and town are relatively unchanged as well.

You’ll still find the gas station on the east side of town like before and the large park area is still in the middle section of town as always. This includes the little pavilion area that is right in the center of town and the soccer field that takes up the southern portion of the map. In fact, the treasure chest is in the same place on the field as well.

Sweaty Sands

If you go southwest of Pleasant Park, you will find one of the most popular and important of the new locations in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1: Sweaty Sands. Sweaty Sands is the most relaxing destination yet in battle royale, being a really nice beachfront town ready to be explored and looted.

On the northern end of Sweaty Sands, you will find the sandy beach that the named location is known for. It is a really large beach, home to plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, and so on. It even has a pier that you can visit that houses the ice cream parlor at the end of it.

On the southern end of the town, though, is the actual city itself. There are plenty of stores, houses, and even a hotel that you can check out. There is also a new dance club that replaces the old warehouse one from the old map. There are plenty of secrets and loot here, making it one of the fan favorite spots this season.

Holly Hedges

Directly south of Sweaty Sands is the much smaller town of Holly Hedges. As the name implies, this is a small town that is completely surrounded by tall hedges that resemble those once found in Wailing Woods (more on that place in a bit).

Once you are able to get into the town itself, you will find a location that is all about the greenery. There is a small park in the town, plenty of small houses to loot from, and the centerpiece of everything is the garden store in the middle. There, you will find plenty of gardening supplies and more.

Weeping Woods

Speaking of Wailing Woods, one of the other returning locations is it, well, sort of. Weeping Woods is like the evolution of Wailing Woods, feeling much larger than ever before and kind of blending it with the other old location of Lonely Lodge.

In fact, you can find the big lonely lodge itself on the western side of the massive forest along with a big river that splits the woods in half. On the eastern half, you will find the traditional campgrounds, complete with an RV park, lodges, and campsites.

Slurpy Swamp

Just south of Weeping Woods, the forest goes from being nice and green to the murky waters of Slurpy Swamp. The terribly named location is home to an interesting swamp that is much more interesting than Moisty Mire from the past.

The center of Slurpy Swamp is a large factory that is home to the creation of the slurp juice consumable item in the game. The factory doesn’t seem to care about ethics, though, as the juice itself has begun spilling out into the swamp waters around it.

This gives some of the swampy waters a glowing nature to them and if you stand in it, it will recharge your health over time just like with slurp juice.

Salty Springs

One of the other returning areas in this latest season is Salty Springs. Like in the case of Pleasant Park, it is relatively unchanged from its previous form but the location of it is certainly different. You can find this nice little town south of Pleasant Park and north of Weeping Woods.

The town returns as one of the most forgettable locations on the map yet again, having a few houses here and there but little reason to visit this place again. Well, except for the gas station and the new Pizza Pete food truck that is nearby.

Misty Meadows

On the far side of the map, we find the southernmost named location called Misty Meadows. This area is a lot like Happy Hamlet from before, keeping the gorgeous style it is known for without all of the snow. Instead, the town is split right down the middle by one of the many rivers on the map.

On one side of Misty Meadows, you will find the typical clocktower that the town of Happy Hamlet was known for before. And on the other side, you will find the town center, shops, and various other areas to explore.

Lazy Lake

Just northeast of Misty Meadows and the huge lake, you will find Lazy Lake that sounds like a blend of the two previous locations Loot Lake and Lazy Links or Lazy Lagoon. What’s weird, though, is that it is totally different from either of those locations.

Here, you will find a nice little waterfall and a more upscale area than compared to most of the rest of the new island. There are nicer buildings and shopping areas, making this one of the more refined locations in battle royale.

Frenzy Farm

Far north of Lazy Lake, you will find Frenzy Farm, which is the direct evolution of Fatal Fields from before. It encompasses a surprisingly wide area that actually turns much of the nearby terrain into the yellow farmland plains.

Frenzy Farm has a lot of fields to hide in, plenty of barns and so on but the main point of the area is the massive mansion right in the middle. This mansion is the central point of Frenzy Farm, offering several floors and lots of rooms to explore.

Retail Row

The final returning area in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 1 is Retail Row. Found a little bit more southeast than it was before, this area is largely unchanged. You’ll still find the houses on the left side of the town and the shopping area on the right side.

Many of the stores are also exactly the same as they were before so you will know this place well already if you visited it often during the past seasons of battle royale.

Dirty Docks

Last but certainly not least, we have the new named location of Dirty Docks. Found on the eastern coast of the map, north of Retail Row, this area is exactly as its name states. It is a large named location but one that is a dirty, nasty dock.

It fits the stereotypical dirty docks theme well, having tons of boat warehouses, industrial buildings, and large cranes all around. While not super appealing to the eye, it is home to plenty of loot and the new motorboat vehicle that was added this season.
