    Nagelsmann off to perfect start

Germany will face Hungary in their next match of Euro 2024.

After today's victory, they know that one more win will pretty much seal their safe passage to the next phase.

Should they manage to do just that in their next game, it gives them chance to rotate their squad and rest some of their key players.

Germans have so much attacking talent

Scotland struggled with the amount of attacking threat the hosts offered in the game today.

One player in particular, Jamal Musiala, wasa thorn in the side of the Scottish defence for majority of the game.

Having scored a goal, he showed why he is regarded as one of Europe's top young talents.

The man, the myth, the legend

Toni Kroos controlled the midfield for the entire time he was on the pitch against Scotland this evening.

Having announced his retirement from all forms of the game after this tournament, the Madrid playmaker will be looking to go out on a high.

If Germany are going to make their mark on this tournament, Toni Kroos could be integral to their success.

    FT: Germany 5-1 Scotland

It was a dominant display by Julian Nagelsmann's side in Munich.

Scotland struggled to create anything in the final third of the pitch and Germany controlled the game from start to finish.

This result will dent the confidence of Steve Clarke's side, that is for sure.

    FT: Germany 5-1 Scotland

The referee blows his whistle, pretty much after the goal is scored.

It is the biggest ever winning margin in an opening game of the Euros tournament.

Can picked the ball up outside the box, shifted it to his right foot and bent it around the defender into the bottom corner of the goal.

    Goal - Emre Can (Germany)

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:55By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-1 Scotland

90+2. Germany have shown this evening that they will be a match for anyone in this tournament.

Scotland have lost some key players in the build-up to the tournament but they would still have not expected such a scoreline this evening.

The Germans have plenty of quality on the bench which can be pivotal in tournament football.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:53By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-1 Scotland

    90. The Scottish fans start singing 'you're not singing anymore' to the German supporters.

Some tongue in cheek humour from the Scots there.

We are going to have an added three minutes.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:51By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-1 Scotland

    88. A free kick was whipped into the back post and as it was headed back across the box, it deflected off Rudiger and into the top corner.

It was a solid header for an own goal, credit where it is due.

The travelling Scotland fans finally have something to cheer in this game.

Own Goal - Antonio Rudiger (Germany)

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:48By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-0 Scotland

    84. Sane goes to ground in the box but there is nothing doing.

The referee has already given two penalties this evening but one was changed to a free kick.

Sane then tries his luck from distance but it is always rising over the crossbar.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:45By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-0 Scotland

    82. Scotland were never expecting an easy game this evening.

Having the home faithful cheering them on, Germany have really handed out a lesson to the Scots this evening.

It will all be about how they can bounce back now in their next game against Switzerland.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:44By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-0 Scotland

    80. Can comes on to replace Kroos.

The Dortmund midfielder was only called up a few days ago.

Muller plays a teasing ball into the back post but Gundogan cannot adjust quickly enough to get a shot off at goal.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:41By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-0 Scotland

    78. The Scotland players are looking as though they are struggling to find something in the tank for this final quarter of an hour.

Nagelsmann has timed his substitutions well and the injection of pace and fresh legs has really tested Scotland.

Clarke will be hoping his side can hold firm in defence.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:39By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-0 Scotland

    76. Things have gone from bad to worse for the Scots.

VAR will review the goal, they may have a shout that he was offisde in the build-up.

In fact, after a very quick review, the goal has been disallowed for offside.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:38By Kieran Davies

    Goal - Niclas Fullkrug (Germany)

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:36By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-0 Scotland

    72. Germany bring on the legend that is Thomas Muller.

Not what Scotland want to see with just under twenty minutes remaining in this game.

The hosts are looking to turn the screw and get more goals to underpin what has been a dominant performance.

Jamal Musiala receives a standing ovation as he makes way for his Bayern Munich teammate.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:33By Kieran Davies

    Germany 4-0 Scotland

    70. As Germany pressed, Scotland could not clear their lines and the ball broke to substitute Fullkrug.

He takes one touch to the ball under his spell and then drills his shot on the half volley into the far corner.

It was a sublime strike by the German.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:31By Kieran Davies

    Goal - Niclas Fullkrug (Germany)

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:29By Kieran Davies

    Germany 3-0 Scotland

    66. Steve Clarke looks set to make some changes himself.

He is looking to freshen things up to see if his side can find a goal that may put the hosts on the back foot more.

Glimour and McLean come on for McGinn and McGregor.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:28By Kieran Davies

    Germany 3-0 Scotland

    64. With just under half an hour remaining, it is important that Scotland remain solid at the back.

The last thing they want from their opening game is a crushing defeat that will raise questions of whether they can handle this level.

If they can keep the scoreline respectable, they can move onto the next game and put this blip behind them.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:27By Kieran Davies

    Germany 3-0 Scotland

    62. Germany opt to make some changes as Havertz and Wirtz make way for Sane and Fullkrug.

Nagelsmann is looking to get some fresh legs onto the pitch to stretch the Scotland defence further.

Sane has ann early sight of goal but it is straight at Gunn.

    One-way traffic in Munich

Germany got off to a rampant start to Euro 2024 going in 3-0 up at half time against Scotland.

With the Scots down to ten men, the second half trajectory is likely to be similar...

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:24By Kieran Davies

    Germany 3-0 Scotland

    60. Gundogan looks to fire a shot off at goal but McGregor makes a fantastic sliding challenge to block it.

Rudiger plays a long ball forward for Havertz but he cannot get the ball under control.

Gunn does well racing off his line to collect.

  • 14th Jun 2024, 21:22By Kieran Davies

    Germany 3-0 Scotland

    58. It is all German pressure at the moment.

Scotland are unable to press the hosts as holes will appear due to the man advantage.

They are having to sit deep and try and make themselves difficult to break down.
