Is IX the darkest Final Fantasy game? (2024)

Damn right it was, a 17 year old girl, goes out to face a gargantuan planet-ravaging monster, and almost everyone is fine with this.

Im sorry but i would never send a 17 year old girl to do what i would not, that would just be weak.

When the 17-year-old girl can summon giant monsters, I think I'd let her do whatever she wanted.

Lol, its not like she had trouble once she got right to the core of the problem. I think the trouble here is, the themes considered in this story may be the darkest, but the way they potrayed it made it seem less harsh.

Basically, the character designs were done so that when playing this game, it seems really light-hearted and cheerful, almost like a childs program or game, but when you discuss the ideas behind it, it seems much darker.

lolwut? VIII wasn't dark and X wasn't a lighter game. VIII was just a love story in the middle ground, and X was plenty dark if you actually look past the tropical environments. The Cloverfield monster comes every so often, people sacrifice themselves to get rid of it just for a short time so others don't have to live in fear, the church governing Spira is corrupt and persecutes the Al Bhed, etc. etc. etc. IX was also pretty damn dark if you bother to look past the exterior.

Yes. That's one thing I like about IX, it LOOKS like a happy little game but when you start paying attention to the events going on and the themes in the game, it's one of the more mature FFs.

), so that only adds to the morbidity of the whole thing.

Having finally finished the game yesterday(XDDD ), I can honestly say that I agree with Ronin-kun's above post.. To be quite honest, I don't personally think that ANY of the games are really very light and happy.. All of them have some really, really dark elements in there... To me, the darkest games in the series between VII and XII were most certainly IX and X..

Ok the Darkest FF game is Definitely Tactics.

You can go through a list of all the characters in the game and before the ending the only people who are alive are your party and a couple others.

The ending? Your whole party and in fact almost everyone left is dead! your whole adventure is forgotten for 200 years and your lame friend gets all the glory. One of the only guys to survive is orlan (Orlandu's Son) and in the epilogue it says he is burned at the stake! Horrible...

I put in my vote for FF5 being rather dark too.... 3 worlds fall apart compared to just 1

I was disturbed by it For me it's right up there with the music where you fight Giygas in Earthbound, which I actually had to mute because I was playing it alone in the middle of the night

I do think IX is definitely up there as one of the darkest FFs, though I haven't played every game in the series. I think what's cool about it is that it's deceptively dark--for me anyway, I didn't really start to feel it until the party arrived on Terra and spoke with the Genomes, and then suddenly you realize that the happy-go-lucky graphics and music are a front for something really disturbing. And the Necron part was exceptionally eerie. Honestly I'm not sure if I could rank IX as the darkest though, because X depressed me through pretty much the entire game; it had a very prominent theme of death everywhere you went, and the realization that all those Fayth bodies had dreamed up Tidus kind of made me sick to my stomach To find out that something so cold and eerie has created you for its own purpose, just...ugh. I think really for me IX and X are a tie for the darkest FF.

I didn't think 9 was all that dark/creepy. The whole alien twist towards the end kinda made it cooler for me. And the ending was really happy. Punk boy gets the princess...happily ever after.

Crisis Core had to be the darkest for me. I cried like my dog just died when they killed Zack. Sure, I knew it was coming, but the way they did it was just horrible. And Aeris is just left waiting for him, with no news ever. Then Cloud comes along and teases her, reminding her of Zack. Crisis Core really made me hate Cloud. He's such a pansy wanna-be. He couldn't even give Zack credit in his own head? What a scumbag. Zack saved his life, and Cloud repays him by stealing his identity (pretty much). The only thing Cloud is good for is some good Yaoi! Maybe with Cloud+Vincent, or Cloud+Zell....Cloud+Tidus....YUM!:yaoi:
