April 2010 in Parenting
I am planning a construction themed 2nd birthday party..../dump trucks.
Anyone plan a party like this with ideas? I have some decor and gift bag stuff and cake. Mostly need game ideas for a 2 year old party. Other ideas welcome though! And I can share mine if anyone is interested.
TIA!

How fun!
A friend had a really cute construction themed party, and one thing I remember- she had canvas tool belts from Home Depot strung across the ended of the table to hold all of the utensils. It looked adorable!
How about "Pin the Wheels on the __________" ( I know nothing about construction vehicles, LOL) for a game?

Love Love Love the tool belts idea for the utensils....will have to use that one!
Thinking of having a ton of ride on toys for the kids. And yellow constructions or caution tape all over. Maybe a pile of dirt brought in and dump trucks. ???

Is it going to be outside? You could have an area with trucks, shovels, etc with dirt, sand, or mulch to play with. My son went to a transportation themed party and everyone brought their own ride-on toy, they decorated them, and had a little parade.

We did it for my DS's 3rd birthday. It was so fun! We gave all the kids personalized hardhats (cheapie ones). I made construction dirt cups -- chocolate pudding topped with crushed Oreos. I made construction truck lollipops using molds and then threw in thosea few tractor fruit snacks. We decorated with caution tape, construction cones, tractors/trucks and construction signs. I served chips, carrots and dip out of the back of (clean) toy dump trucks. The gift bags had a little construction Hot Wheels, tool stickers andconstruction truck fruit snacks.
We didn't play any games, but you could do a variation of "pin the tail on the donkey" and do something like "pin the boom on the truck." DS received a memory game that's all Caterpillar construction-themed, so the kids could play that. You could have a sand table set up with a bunch of construction trucks. You could do races between the kids to dress up like a construction worker fastest (have them put on work boots,a vest, construction hat and tool belt). You could have a "name the tool" contest and even the adults could take part if you get some obscure tools. We also had a construction truck video (that we got at TRU for $5) playing, which entertained the kids.

I got caution tape at home depot to use as streamers and to decorate bowls etc.IParty had construction hats (mini to decorate and big to wear) and signs.I decorated with little trucks ( we did a tonka party)I did two cakes - a dirt cake for kids that I decorated with tonka cup cake flagsand a chocolate torte covered in ganache. I used construction cone candles and a clean toy dump truck filled with choc cov coffee beans ( looked like rocks)I also used constuction cones lining the stairs as decorations.
